Welcome to Phy 141.
I have noticed that you registered for Physics 141, the course I will teach this semester. The purpose of this email is to inform you about the nature of this course to make sure that this is the right course for you.
I do assume that you have seen physics in high school. Although I do not make any assumption about the level of your exposure to physics in high school, I assume you have completed a full year of high-school physics and did well in that course. I will assume that you are familiar with the equations of motion in 1, 2, and 3 dimensions. I assume you understand projectile motion and understand the basics of conservation of energy and momentum, and can handle Newtons force laws for various forces. Although we will revisit some of the concepts in class, I will assume you have seen these concepts before.
If you have not taken physics in high school or you have taken physics but failed the course, then Phy 141 is not the right course to take and Phy 121, where no prior physics exposure will be assumed, is the better option for you. Phy 121 is offered in the spring.
